I love the old saying, “Life by the yard is hard, life by the inch is a cinch!” I don’t know who first said it but it is definitely true. And it is especially powerful when it comes to self-belief as fuel. To begin, you need to take time to envision what you’re capable of creating. What is your income? Your reach? Now, what do those beliefs stir in you? What emotions come to the surface? To answer these questions and to begin inching your self-fuel forward, you need to envision what you’re capable of creating. What is your income? Your reach? What do you believe is possible? As you consider these things, additional questions naturally arise like: How do I stay in belief? How do I stay aligned with myself? How do I pivot? In this episode, I help you address those questions. I teach these concepts in my coaching course and they’ve worked for me and countless others. I believe they will work for you as well.

Welcome to the masterful coach podcast with Molly Claire, where coaches learn skill mastery, business mastery, and life Mastery at a whole new level. If you're ready to create a meaningful coaching business that makes a difference, you're in the right place. And now your host, Master coach instructor, Molly Claire. Hello, masterful coach. Today's topic has been at the top of my mind, in our mastermind in the coaching collective we've been talking about where everyone's getting stuck and what they're needing. So one thing that we do is we have our quarterly workshop, everyone in the mastermind comes together, and we have a daylong workshop and we work on intense business planning, we get our personal priorities in order, and then we also offer some bonus workshops. And I'm always trying to connect with what the needs of our coaches are. And what keeps coming up time and again, is belief. How do I stay in belief? How do I stay aligned with me? How do I know when to pivot? All of these questions coming up, and so as we've been preparing for our next workshop, this is the topic right here; belief. So today, we are going to be focusing on the business mastery aspect of masterful coaching, and specifically with self belief, self belief as the fuel in your business. So close your eyes for just a minute and think about what you are capable of creating in your business. Think about the income level you believe you're capable of. Think about the possible reach how many people you believe you can help. Think about what success means for you and notice the feelings that come up to you with regard to you being able to create that success. And also think about what that success means in relation to your life, your personal life, your experience of life. Okay, you can open your eyes; this is where it all begins. This is where your business is created and ultimately, where every end result that you create comes from. It comes from this belief, it comes from your view of what's possible, and that is your anchor. And so one of the three pillars of mastery that we talk about is business mastery, which covers all things related to business, but belief in yourself and your abilities is absolutely the foundation of it all. So today, I'm going to be talking about three things you need to do in order to have more self belief as fuel. I'm going to give you some tips here; you guys know I love a good checklist of things. So I'm going to break this down for you. So the first thing we're going to talk about is deciding that endpoint belief. Next, we're going to talk about understanding the beliefs in your way of getting there, and then we're going to talk about what stepping into belief means for you. I hear this so much from coaches, I want to step into belief, I can't stand belief, all of these things I hear all the time, and we’re going to talk about all of it today. So let's take it just one at a time. The first thing I want you to think about is that endpoint belief and when I say endpoint, the truth is that once you get there, we're going to go to whatever's next, right? We're never really done. We're always evolving, we're always progressing. But right now, I want you to think about imagine that endpoint belief in your business and here's what I mean by this. When you imagine that ultimate place you want to be in your business, whatever that looks like, that is the endpoint belief that I'm talking about. And some of the things I want you to consider, as you think about that endpoint, what you're working toward what that goal is, is number one, what are the measurable results that you see? What is your income? What is your reach? What is the type of business that you have, and the time and freedom it allows in your life? Those are some of the things you want to consider when you think about that end goal. Another thing to consider what type of relationship do you have with yourself and your life when you're at that place? And the last thing to consider here, how you'll feel and what you'll believe is possible when you are there. So these are some things that are so important for you to consider to get crystal clear on that endpoint belief, and I'm going to talk a little bit more about that in a minute as well. Right now, I want to give you a couple examples for me personally in my life of what this means. And the first one is actually a personal example for me, this isn't business related. But I still believe it's relevant. Because as you are here with me, you are hopefully coming to do three things, number one, be a better coach have more masterful skills, and this example is going to help you to be more masterful, even with your coaching with your clients. It's also going to help you remember how to connect what I'm teaching you here with your personal life because we know that any business success is only as good as the personal life that you're creating as well. So let's talk a little bit about an example of me considering that endpoint belief. So by now, you probably know I'm a little obsessed with my kids, they're kind of awesome and my connection with them is such a joy in my life. And going through my divorce definitely threw me for a loop in terms of what our relationship and connection looks like. It was really hard for me to feel like my kids had this separate life and family that I'm not really a part of, it was never what I envisioned happening. And I had to get used to holidays looking different, and all kinds of other things. And when my 16 year old told me that he wanted to try living with his dad, it was pretty devastating for me, I'm not gonna lie, I was feeling all the fields. And so I had to have a lot of coaching, a lot of crying, a lot of letting go all of that. When I was at the place that I was ready to shift, and really accept what was happening and figure out what I wanted to create, then it became all about thinking about that end point, that end goal of where I wanted our connection and relationship to be. So what I did is I thought about ultimately what I wanted within my relationship with my son, I thought about how we like to adventure together all the things and ways we love to connect. We love biking, kayaking, walking and talking together and I thought about what I wanted to create in that relationship and I set my sights on it. Now this process is so empowering, whether it's in a relationship or whether it's in your business, because it allows you to focus on creating what you want and really moves you toward it. It doesn't give any energy to what you wish was true, or the limitations or the disappointments. It's totally forward focused and powerful. Now let's talk a little about business. The end goal for my business includes things like my experience for my client that is a high priority for me. And in the collective where I work with Amy Gianni, this is something we spend a lot of time with, what is the experience for our clients? How do we really truly connect with them, and create that? It also includes things like how many hours I'm working, and what type of work I'm doing in my business, harnessing my passions in my business means focusing on creating, inspiring, leading, and not getting caught up in the details that are not really relevant to my own unique genius. It's also identifying that money results that I want. It's identifying how my business supports the life I want and specifically identifying that getting really clear. It's identifying exactly how my business impacts other people. It's detailed and clear, including logistics, data, emotions that I experience, experience of life, experience of my business, and how it all fits together in the big picture of things for me. So this is what I'm talking about. So for you really think about what is that end goal? And what is it that you believe that gets you there? I believe I am capable of being a business owner of this type of business, I believe I have a life that looks like this. So really get clear for yourself and see that end goal is the belief you want to have. All right, moving on, let's talk about addressing the beliefs in your way. So this exercise is so important because as we move toward becoming this person believing we are the person that creates that business, inevitably there are going to be fears and doubts that come up all fueled by thoughts, all fueled by limiting beliefs and as we can address this, this is kind of like okay, let's take a look at what's going to get in my way as I'm getting there and have a strategy for it. So the first thing you want to do is make a list of all the doubts and fears that you have. Now this list will end up being a list of thoughts and a list of beliefs that are in your way and what we want to do in this process is see them and acknowledge them. Okay? All these familiar thoughts and beliefs and feelings that you're going to see are really useful for two main reasons. So first of all, let me back up a little bit and just make it clear that I promise you that on any given three days, you could have three different times that you're feeling fear and doubt in your business on three totally different issues that are coming up that seem so unique and so different and your thoughts and feelings seem so tied to that circumstance. But I promise you that in each scenario, you are going to have similar thoughts, even exact thoughts and feelings. And so this is why we want to make this list because this is a useful thing. Now, here are the two main reasons when you see these thoughts coming up again, and again, you create some space from them, you can see them for what they are, right? When you see, for example, that you often have the thought, I'll never be able to figure this out, then you begin to realize, wait a minute, I'm not thinking this because this is such a hard thing to figure out. I'm thinking this because this is a pattern for me, this is a practice thought, and then you can see, it's not that new thing in front of you that you're trying to figure out. It's just an easy place for your brain to go. So having this list from the beginning and referencing it to notice and match up. Oh, here's that thought coming up, gives you space from the thoughts. The other reason this is so useful is you can truly plan ahead of time how to manage these unruly intruders, you can have a plan for each one, when you see them as thoughts that you're expecting, it gives them much less power. So make that list, be aware of it, keep it handy and just notice those thoughts for what they are instead of giving them so much power and so much of a connection to each individual circumstance. Okay, you ready for the last thing, we're going to focus on defining what stepping into belief means for you. A big misconception that I hear from my clients is that they think stepping into belief means that they believe something immediately and 100% of the time. And when they don't, they get frustrated; they get frustrated when they aren't in belief, and when they have doubts and fears. And I think it's so much more useful to create a plan for committing to the belief and defining for you what that process looks like. I spoke about this on an earlier episode where I was talking about anchoring yourself in that belief that you want and committing to getting there. So again, remember, instead of I'm just in belief, and I think it should just be there all the time, you commit to that end result, and you commit to that belief, and then define a process of moving toward that belief. So I'm going to give you three little tricks within this idea of stepping into belief. So number one, you turn thoughts. Now one of the things we focus on in the coaching collective is creating CEO brain patterns. So you collective coaches out there, you remember this module, right? Where we were talking about effective brain patterns, and not only like understanding those that are effective for you already, but creating new ones. So as the CEO of your coaching business, you listening, you are the leader, the CEO of your business, you are the coach, you are the talent, and you are also the boss of your business. And as the CEO, you think differently. And it's important to cultivate powerful patterns of thought. And it's also important to identify the thoughts working for you. Getting stuck in doubt and fear is totally normal. Just like it's normal to turn down the wrong road sometimes when you're driving, or to miss a turn and have to go back around. Or you know, when you go in a parking lot, and you maybe you see a store you're going to and you enter the parking lot, a little too soon and you think certainly that parking lot connects and it doesn't. And then what do you have to do? You have to turn around, go back out to the main road, right? All of this is normal and it's not a problem. You just have to know how do you turn and when to U turn. And learning to U turn your thinking is really the key to managing doubt and fear going down and not so useful path, never a problem. So for you identify some of those thoughts that can turn you around, get you back on track. Okay, the next thing we're going to talk about creating emotion. So one of the first things I do with my clients is help them to get that crystal clear vision of their ideal life and business. This is what I was talking about right at the beginning of this podcast, right? I mean, crystal clear down to the last detail. And in that process, it's also important to identify the emotions, you imagine you'll regularly feel when you have that life, not only will identifying that emotion, help you move toward that result, but it reminds you of the emotions that you need to play with to create now. As you create that emotion, you're actually instilling that emotion as a familiar one for you that is comfortable. We all have go to emotions, I promise you that when you keep track of your emotions on a regular basis, you're going to see the same emotions popping up. Similar to what I was saying about those go to thoughts around fear and doubt, right. So we all have those go to emotions, they're familiar, they're comfortable, they're easily repeatable. So by focusing on the emotions, you imagine, you'll feel when you arrive at that place where you want to be, you are installing new programming in your brain. This is an emotion that is easy to feel, this is an emotion we want to feel, this is a go to emotion. You can start to enjoy more often those feelings, which is awesome, right? And you make them a regular occurrence; you are truly creating a new daily experience of life and all in your mind. This is a powerful piece of living in belief everyday and it's so much fun. Just think about is kind of playing with emotions and experiencing them. Okay, last tip for you stair step beliefs. So when you think about that ultimate belief that you want, I want you to imagine that you have a staircase with all the supporting beliefs leading up to that end result. One of the most detrimental ways of thinking is believing that stepping into belief, or living in belief means we are at the top of that belief immediately and all the time. This is all or nothing thinking that leaves you discouraged and frustrated, when you think things aren't working out. Or your brain is creating feelings of doubt, or discouragement from all of the thoughts flooding your mind. I'm always teaching my clients about the idea of taking one step at a time, not just an action, but in belief. And I'm not sure where I learned this little phrase. It's kind of like a great old grandma phrase or something. But it's so wise and I absolutely love it. Life by the yard is hard. Life by the inch is a cinch. And if you can give yourself just that one little belief you need today and stay in that space, it can be the stair step to where you're heading next. So don't get in this frame of mind of being totally unbelief all the way there. No doubt it's not going to happen. It's that life by the inch is a cinch, stepping into one powerful thought, another powerful thought, one powerful belief, and I promised you that is going to allow you to manage much easier the doubts that come up, it's going to give you that support those stair step supports up to that belief. So belief, really, truly, I promise coach is the foundation of your business. It's where it begins. It's how it progresses and it's that end result that you are creating. Spend a little time today identifying the best thoughts and beliefs you already have; capitalize on them. Spend a little time creating those emotions you most want. You're totally capable of doing that play with those emotions as you create them, feel empowered. You can truly create any reality you want for your business. I have experienced this. I know it to be true, and I can't wait to watch you succeed. I'll see you next time. Thanks for listening to the masterful coach podcast.
