There are two basic types of entrepreneurs: those who have no lack of action and those who feel they cannot act until everything is in place. With either approach, there are problems. Intro: Welcome to The Masterful Coach podcast, with Molly Claire, where coaches learn skill mastery, business mastery, and life mastery at a whole new level. If you’re ready to create a meaningful coaching business that makes a difference, you’re in the right place. And now your host, master coach instructor, Molly Claire. Molly Claire: Hello coaches! Who is ready to make your business happen? I am just coming off a few amazing days in Austin. I mentioned last week I was able to go with my husband who is coaching and making a difference with his unique business, I was able to meet up with my sister and business partner, Amy Gianni, and connect with so many of our clients in the Coaching Collective, so many coaches that I’ve trained over the last few years and never met in person. And one of the highlights was reconnecting with some of the master coaches that we were training in the Cayman Islands before COVID hit. So, the last time I saw them in person was so long ago, and just to see all have them and how they’ve grown and blossomed and their businesses have just exploded, it was just amazing. So, so much love to all of you. It’s such an amazing event. And I always love hearing from women in this industry who are putting themselves out there and are creating a life they love, a business they love. It’s so inspiring. So everyone that was there, thank you for your energy and amazingness. Okay, I want to talk today about doing the things to move your business forward. We all want to move our business forward, right? And we all have a little bit different variation of traps that we get into. And I typically separate these into kind of two basic categories of entrepreneurs. And there are those that are pretty quick to take action, and they do everything, and they are going, going, going, and there is no lack of action. And yet the problem with this personality is that oftentimes we can get burned out, we can take action that isn’t necessarily as effective as the action that we would take if we could slow down a little bit. And so for those of you that fall into this camp, yes, this episode is for you, I am talking about moving your business forward. And it’s not from taking more frantic action, or urgency or scarcity, but we’re going to put a little bit different flavor on it for you. And then there are those of you listening who do a lot of consuming, a lot of listening, a lot of planning. And you feel like you have to have everything in place perfectly before you put anything out there. And that is the way that you slow yourself down in your business. So today, I’m going to speak to both of these two camps of coach and especially, especially, I would say for those of you who want to have it all figured out before you do the thing, because I see a lot of patterns. And I want to share some of these with you, and tell you that today if you are listening, if you are here today, take some action in your business, take this podcast episode seriously. You have a lot of ways you could spend your time, a lot of places you could be right now, and you’re choosing to be here with me. So don’t take it lightly. Don’t just think about this as another podcast you’re listening to while you’re doing something. Please take this in and do something with it. Are you in? Are you ready? Are you committed? Let’s do it! So, let’s talk about taking action today and what this really means. So, vision boards and writing goals down are important and powerful things to do. And we hear from amazing thought leaders and very successful coaches and leaders in this space about when they’ve written their goal down and how they’ve really brought that in. I talk to you a lot about feeling the emotions, experiencing these emotions, and giving yourself time to do that. But if you go back and listen to the episodes I’ve shared with you, or two thought leaders who share these experiences, you’ll notice that they’ll say something like: “I wrote this goal down and I looked at it every single day.” They will say things like: “give yourself two to three minutes to experience this emotion.” I’ve shared this tip with you before on this very podcast, right? And so if you go back and listen to this advice that you’ve heard, notice that it is not that 95% of their time is spent envisioning, feeling, thinking, but rather, that is one vital thing they are doing, and then they get to work. So I think visualizing, deciding what you want is extremely important. When I work with clients, it’s the first thing that we do, let’s figure out, let’s slow down, what do you want in your life? What do you want in your business? Let’s visualize, let’s get serious about this. I absolutely agree that that is the first step. But then we’ve got to get to work. And so I want to tell you this, do that work of deciding what you want, or writing your goals down and then get to work. Make decisions quickly. Your decisions will be wrong a lot of the time, your decisions will be something that you might have done differently if you could go back in time, a lot of the time, but every decision, right, wrong, or indifferent, all move you forward. As a business owner, as a business builder, you have got to get good at making a decision and moving forward. Also, when you’re thinking about taking action today, make sure that your action is effective, that it’s not passive action, that it’s not chaotic, frantic action. But take action that is going to be in line with where you are headed. I’m going to give you some more tips here that are going to help you with us. But really notice the kind of action you’re taking and make sure that it’s actually effective for where you’re headed. Next thing I want to focus in on is small things are the big things. We spend a lot of time as business builders, thinking about these big complicated things we want to do. And often we miss the little things right in front of us. Sometimes when I’m working with my clients, and we’ll talk about these big things, and they’ll have these new big things they’re working on. And what I say is, I’m the easy button, you could do all of these things, or you could do the simple thing. Which one do you want to do? Because this simple thing, this easy button is going to move you a lot further than spending a lot of time buffering and doing something big. Now, certainly, sometimes there are big things, whatever that mean, that we dive into and we break those down, and we make them happen. And I do think it’s very valuable for you as a coach, to think about the big picture, the grand scheme of things, those amazing things you want to do. But don’t allow all of that time thinking about and planning for something complicated to keep you from doing those little things that are right in front of you. A client came to me with big dreams and visions. And she’d been working with clients and had phenomenal ideas for what she wanted to do. She was an amazing coach. She’d been on some podcasts. And she had been planning for her freebie for over a year and a half. Wow! So much work she was doing, so much work as a coach that was so powerful. And yet she was missing out on one small thing that should have taken her 20 minutes to do with the help of a VA cleaning it up. Now that small thing can result in big things for her. That small thing can mean more people can get into her world. It opens up the potential for the big things that she wants. Doing the small things keeps us from the big things. A few things for you to think about. What are the small things you can do today that will make a big difference? Challenge yourself to find three, and then go do those things. Also think about the small things that support you in the short term and in the long term as well as you’re sifting through this. I often talk about the quick wins, the things that bring money, and now the things that make a difference now to move you forward, and the things that lay the foundation for the future. I believe there are a lot of small things that can support you in both the now and the long term. And the last thing I want to offer up to you as you’re thinking about these small things, is simplify everything. Even if something seems big, figure out how to make it small and do it. Simplicity, focusing on the small things is everything. Last tip I’ve got for you today as I am encouraging you to take action, let people in, let people in. And if you’re listening and you think, “Oh, I already let people in. I’m already out there.” Stay with me because I have a message for every single one of you. No matter who you are, there are ways you are not letting people in. There are ways you are not putting yourself out there. Not making your calendar accessible because you don’t really like that someone else gets to decide when you talk to them. Listen, if this is you, there are ways around this, right? You get to decide what times you put out there. This is a huge thing I see with a lot of coaches not making your calendar accessible, making it more difficult for people to schedule with you, going back and forth with them. Not giving people an easy freebie, so they can get on your email list. Missing out on sharing you with your people by emailing them, sharing something, thinking things like, “Oh, well, it has to be really good.” Or “no one reads emails anyway.’ That’s not true. People read emails, and if you’re giving people a message they need to hear, they will open your email. Another way I see you not letting people in is believing you need to have it all figured out before you let people in. Even you listening who believe you are showing up and putting yourself out there, think about, how are you playing small? Maybe a little smaller than you could. What would be different for you today if you believed you were that one person who you admire? How would you show up differently if you were as confident and grounded and amazing and powerful as that person? Step into that persona you want to be and you will show up differently. All right, coaches take some action to make yourself accessible, provide a way for people to get to know you even before you’re ready, or before you have it all figured out. Take this episode and listen to it again if you have to, but only one more time because I want you to put this into action and make it happen. There are too many people that want to hear from you. I want to share with you one thing before I let you all go today. So when I was at this mastermind last week, I had such a meaningful conversation with someone. And Kimberly, who I worked with back five years ago for 30 days, in a small group that I offered for free when I launched my book, The Happy Mom Mindset, came up to me and said, “You are the reason that I’m here.” Now I’m not saying this to say, oh, I’ve done something amazing. But I want to point out to you that here is someone who I crossed paths with in this small moment in time. Now, mind you, I made no money off of this month that I spent with her. And many of the things that I was doing at that time, my online program, and all the things that you coaches are doing, I didn’t make a lot of money. And in fact, I probably ended up spending more money going through that process. Now, of course, that all has laid the foundation for where I am now. But if I look back at that little period of time, where I was doing a lot of things, figuring it out and not really making money, I was able to impact someone’s life so much that they came up to me five years later, and said that because you put yourself out there, because you were available, because you had a message I needed, my life is different. Listen coaches, take action, let people in, put your message out there. You can and will make a difference if you’re willing to do it. That’s what I’ve got for you. Thanks for being here. And I’ll be back next week. See you then! Outro: Thanks for listening to The Masterful Coach podcast.
