What do you as a high-level leader need to know about your brilliant brain to ensure a leadership mindset?

Share your Leadership mindset

Have you ever noticed that as a leader you have a certain mindset or way of thinking that you desperately wish others could adopt? In Coach Certification and Leadership Training, I teach my clients about CEO brain patterns which are the kind of thoughts that will make sure you, your clients, or your team meet the goals in front of you.

Leadership mindset is more than an attitude

“Mindset” is more than an attitude. The way you think about your life every single day, impacts how you experience your life. The same is true for the people you’re leading and those you’re working with.

As a leader, coach, or mentor in your work, even the best plan of action set in motion can only be as effective as the thought patterns behind them. What does this mean?  Let’s get specific:

  • Assess

Before giving a task or plan of action to your client or team member, you have to assess the level of belief or confidence they have that they will achieve it.  Have you heard the term, “confirmation bias?” It’s the idea that people are actively assessing information and seeing the world through a lens that supports their existing beliefs.  This means that if someone doesn’t believe they can accomplish something, that belief will undermine all of their efforts and sabotage the plan you’re trying to give them.

  • Notice patterns

If you notice a pattern in a client or team member that is ineffective, get curious about why that pattern is happening.  Ask them about the pattern and find out their perspective on it.  This will give you insight into how their mindset is limiting their ability to change.  We study beliefs and thought patterns extensively in Coach Certification and Leadership Training simply because they are such powerful drivers of our behaviors and our ability to create change.

  • Be proactive

You can proactively help your clients or team members create effective thought patterns with powerful questions.  While positive affirmations can be effective, they can also work against the changes you’re trying to make in attitude or mindset. However, the human brain will automatically work to answer questions.  Powerful questions are the type of questions that challenge your brain to see a broader perspective and find new solutions.  Some examples include things like, “What solution am I not seeing yet?”  “Why will it be easier to implement this change this time around?”  “What can I do that will set me up for success.”  These type of questions will automatically create a mindset of forward-thinking, maximizing the abilities of your brilliant CEO brain - the prefrontal cortex.
